Chinmay is only eight months old and has been diagnosed with PDA I COA at such a young age. In fact, his condition worsened just two days after he was born. He had a severe cough, cold, and high fever.
The doctor advised the parents to get his echo done as he suspected a cardiac problem. It was confirmed later, that he has a hole in his heart and needed treatment. Unfortunately, the hospital didn’t have the facility or a specialist to treat Chinmay’s condition and the parents had no option but to travel to Hrishikesh AIIMS for his further treatment. The doctors prescribed him some medicines as he was diagnosed with the same heart problem in AIIMS as well. The medicine continued for six months and suddenly, one day he had a high fever. For three days, Chinmay struggled after which, he was admitted to AIIMS. It was a very challenging phase for his parents as he was there for almost two months, and on a ventilator for 26 days.
The problem was still looming large. He ended up having pneumonia after he got discharged. His lungs were damaged, and the child was in terrible pain and discomfort. The doctor informed the parents that the heart problem was the main cause of pneumonia, and these health issues would persist until they get his heart condition treated.
The parents were perplexed and under a lot of stress. They couldn’t manage to schedule an appointment at AIIMS Hrishikesh. They tried meeting several specialists, but the response was not satisfactory. Exasperated and disheartened, the father spoke about the ordeals within his network and luckily someone knew about Child Heart Foundation.
They immediately connected with Dr. Vikas Kohli’s team and came directly to Delhi to meet him. Dr. Kohli also advised them of the surgery on an immediate basis.
The family, however, is going through a financial crisis and the estimated cost of the surgery is Rs. 2,75,000. Chinmay has been registered under Hridaan and the team is trying to raise funds for him.
The family depends entirely on farming and his father is a PhD student. It would not be possible for them to arrange money for Chinmay’s surgery on their own. CHF stepped up and with our donor's help funds were arranged.
Chinmay's surgery has been a success! The family in recent times went through a whirlwind of emotions as they struggled with their child's health issues. The father was overwhelmed when he met the CHF team and expressed his immense gratitude towards Dr. Kohli.
'It was all destiny and we can't thank god enough for connecting us with CHF. It has been nothing less than a miracle and we are still processing the joy and happiness that we are experiencing as a family. Thank you, Dr. Kohli and the CHF team for everything that you have done for us' said the father
