Suleman was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)- a life-threatening heart disease when he was just a few years old. Exasperated and overwhelmed due to the sudden diagnosis, his parents didn’t know who to turn to. Especially due to the lack of information, they were worried when they heard that Suleman would need immediate surgery. Additionally, due to their financial situation, they could not afford the surgery and had lost all hope of saving their son.
After months of peril, Suleman’s parents came to Child Heart Foundation (CHF) for a consultation with Dr. Vikas Kohli. Zaheer, Suleman’s mother, felt that he was their saving grace. They were skeptical about the success rate and scared that they would lose their son. Zaheer expressed how Dr. Vikas Kohli reassured them about the procedure and explained the intricacies of the same. Without his aid in the diagnosis and fundraising, little Suleman would have had no hopes of survival.
Owing to the funds raised by CHF, Saleman had successful surgery in Apollo- a leading private hospital where his parents could not even dream of ever going. Dr. Kohli completed the entire procedure successfully in thirty minutes. When he bought the news to Suleman’s parents, they felt a great sense of relief. Their elation knew no bounds. According to Zaheer, the best part about the procedure was that it was a non-invasive permanent surgery that would enable her son to live a normal life. She expressed her gratitude to Dr. Kohli and his humongous efforts, the donors who generously helped save her son’s life, and all the people at CHF who worked tirelessly to make this possible.
