Chirayu, Priyanka’s beloved son, was diagnosed with a heart defect when she was pregnant with him. After several failed attempts and innumerable visits to various hospitals, Chirayu’s parents hesitantly approached Dr. Vikas Kohli because they were sceptical about how much it would cost them. To their surprise, he gave them a free echo and ordered an angiography. After assisting them in understanding the entire procedure of the surgery and putting their mind at ease, he helped them register at CHF. Due to the relentless work done by CHF, Chirayu had a successful surgery within three months. Priyanka expresses her extreme gratitude to Dr. Vikas Kohli, who helped them through the entire process and to CHF, who guided and aided in all necessary procedures.
The entire process started right after delivery when the doctors claimed the diagnosis was a false positive. But, when little Chirayu was just two months old, he started getting extremely sick. He would have difficulty with breastfeeding, used to cry frequently, had an irregular sleep, and turned blue sometimes. Worried, his parents took him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a combination of four congenital heart defects.
Additionally, the lockdown made it extremely difficult for them to take Chirayu to the hospital frequently. The doctors prescribed several medicines for him, which to his parents’ despair, did not work. Exhausted and distraught, they went to another hospital and tried to book a surgery date for him. The hospital postponed the surgery date for two years due to the long waitlist. Finally, the hospital told Priyanka they couldn’t go through with the surgery. Chirayu’s parents were very perturbed. The long wait without successful treatment had just exacerbated the situation. At last, they found out about Child Heart Foundation through a family friend. Chirayu is doing much better after the surgery and is slowly learning to eat. Priyanka thanks Dr. Kohli, CHF, and all donors for giving her son the gift of life.
