Krishna, a young boy from Bihar, was diagnosed with a heart defect when he was just a few months old. After several failed attempts and numerous hospital visits, Krishna’s father, Mithun, approached Dr. Vikas Kohli for help. After assisting them in understanding the entire procedure of the surgery and putting their mind at ease, he helped them register at CHF. Dr. Kohli referred them to AIIMS, where they were fortunate enough to get a surgery date within two weeks. The successful surgery took place on the fateful day of Christmas in 2020. Due to the relentless work done by CHF and Dr. Vikas Kohli, Krishna is happy and healthy now.
The entire process started when Krishna got infected with Pneumonia when he was 8-9 months old. After being admitted to the hospital for four days, the doctors diagnosed him with TETRALOGY OF FALLOT (TOF). To gain more credibility for this diagnosis, they travelled to Jalandhar. Proper tests were conducted, and the diagnosis was confirmed, after which Krishna and Mithun had to take several trips to Jalandhar for further discussion.
The doctors in Jalandhar confirmed that Krishna needed surgery which would cost five to six lakhs. Mithun is a daily wage labourer and could not afford an expensive surgery like this, due to which he was referred to CHF. After several phone calls, coordination, and trips to Delhi later, Dr. Kohli referred them to a hospital in Palwal. Unexpectedly, Krishna and his father faced discrimination due to their culture and religion, which was triggered by a minor skin allergy. Due to this shocking and disheartening incident, the healthcare workers kicked them out of the hospital in Palwal, and the doctors cancelled the surgery.
Dr. Kohli helped Mithun during these challenging times and helped raise funds for Krishna’s surgery. He consoled and assured him that Krishna’s surgery would only be at the best hospital. As fate would have it, when he was five, Krishna underwent a successful story in AIIMS.
Through these ups and downs that life presented Mithun with, Krishna is at the prime of his health. Despite contacting many hospitals and doctors, he could not discover a solution to reduce the surgery cost. He had almost given all hope of saving his only son. Mithun expresses his gratitude towards Dr. Kohli and everyone at CHF, who he considers family. They were there for him when he needed it the most and made him understand the entire surgical procedure to put his mind at ease. Dr. Vikas Kohli also included the travel and accommodation expenses since Mithun could not afford them. Mithun views Dr. Kohli like God and is forever grateful to him for saving his son’s life.
