Sanatan, 13 year old, studies in class 7, lives in Siliguri, West Bengal. He was growing up as a normal-teenager without paying much attention to his spells of breathlessness and tiredness after every small physical activity since his childhood or his circumstances have never allowed him to consider that he might have any defect in heart. His father pulls a rickshaw and earns in pennies.
Multiple visits to Government hospitals did not help him in any way until they approached Child Heart Foundation. Under our Hridansh (Free Echo programme), he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a type of high blood pressure that affects arteries in the lungs and heart. The only treatment was medication and oxygen therapy which help lessen symptoms and improve quality of life. Son of a rickshaw puller, how he would be able to afford these medicines which cost him a fortune. Dr. Vikas Kohli, through Child Heart Foundation, sponsored 60,000 INR and gave Sanatan his medicines, which will keep him alive and help him lead a normal life as others.
