Deen Mohammad is a 19-year-old boy from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was 9 years old when there was blood in his cough. The parents got worried and decided to take him to the doctor. The doctor gave a normal report and asked them not to worry. However, his symptoms continued, and the condition deteriorated. This was a big concern for them and in 2014, they finally took him to another hospital near Ghaziabad. The echo was done, and the parents were informed about his heart condition. It was discovered that he had a hole in his heart and as per the doctors, this issue should have been addressed earlier. The parents could not believe it and were left disheartened. It took them a while to process things.
Another tragedy that befell Deen’s family was his mother passing away. Already, the family was dealing with Deen’s health issues and was not prepared for another setback. His mother was unwell for a while, and they had already spent Rs. 7,00,000 on her treatment. The money they had managed to raise was borrowed from their friends and relatives. Her passing away left an impact on Deen and his father, who still have not been able to move on from this personal loss. While interacting with the staff, they couldn’t contain themselves and tears welled up on various occasions.
During this tragic time, the focus completely shifted away from Deen’s health condition, and they were left helpless as they had sold their property for his mother’s treatment.
In 2019, they contacted G.B Pant Hospital. The treatment was going on but because of Covid, things came to a sudden halt. The family again found themselves in a similar situation with no clarity. After a while in 2021, one of their relatives informed them about the Safdarjung Hospital. They went there for the check-up and the doctors referred them to Child
Heart Foundation in February 2021. They visited the centre and Dr. Vikas Kohli did the echo. It was found out that he needed Angiography for which CHF raised funds and got it down from Apollo Hospital. Deen’s family again contacted Safdarjung Hospital and he was admitted there in August 2021. However, the team again referred them to Child Heart Foundation as they didn’t have the required infrastructure.
They visited CHF on 06.09.2021 and Dr. Kohli, after carrying out a few tests, informed Nijamuddin (his father) about the diagnosis. He has AV VA DISCORDANCE and requires SENNING RASTELLI surgery. The estimated cost for the same is Rs. 5,50,000. The family was not in a condition to funding Deen’s surgery as they have been already marred by various tragedies.
He presently got FONTAN Surgery done with help from CHF.
The family is extremely thankful to CHF and its donor for saving their child. It was an emotional moment for her parents as well as for us.
